OOTD: You Let it Go Too Far

What does one wear to a music festival, I hear you ask?
It was actually a rather chilly 17 degrees that day in Bendigo for Groovin' The Moo, thank God the sun was out during the day! No matter at what music festival it is during the year, you will always have girls who wear really short shorts where you can see their bums sticking out - no matter what (especially if under-agers are allowed in). I felt sorry for them once the sun set, it was BEYOND freezing and thank goodness I had bought a cardi!
What I'm wearing
Studded Mustard Crop Top from O-mighty ($25)
Pop Art Leggings from Ebay ($7)
Ankle Boots Daikon in Taupe from Novo Shoes ($59.95)
Boyfriend Beanie in Grey from ASOS ($10)
Metal Bridge Detail Retro Sunglasses from ASOS ($10)
Here's a closer look at my leggings I got off Ebay, obviously made in China hahaha! I got a few people who sparked up conversations about my leggings during the day, they're a good convo starter ahaha I love these leggings because they're not "crotch-al", yep that's what I'm calling it now. If you're a girl, you'll know exactly what I mean and because they're patterned, the seams of my undies were not visible (I don't think...LOL).
I'm also going to take this opportunity to talk about my ASOS boat rings. I wear these ALL THE TIME! They were originally a Gold but have now faded into a Rose-Gold. Aren't they cute?! ilyyyyyy
Take a look at my post on this outfit on lookbook!

Groovin' the Moo 2013

What a fantastic weekend I had! My last music festival was Big Day Out 2010 when Muse was headlining, but I finally went to another one this year! Made it all the way to Bendigo for Groovin' the Moo 2013, the line-up was NOT a let down! The line-up consisted of many Australian indie bands with some international soft-rock bands and lots of hiphop artists! My uni friends and I decided to drive down and stay a friends house in Bendigo  for the weekend (2 hours drive from Melbourne) before going to the showgrounds.
Here's a cool dutch braid I did for my friend starting on the left all the way to the right across the front of her head and then I popped the flower headband just behind it! She got so many compliments for it! So proud :')
Started the day with the Last Dinosaurs, OMG I've got so much love for this band! Amazing band from Brisbane, their main singer is an asian with curly hair - my fav! LOL They were such a good start to the day :)
I have this picture of Matt and Kim just to appreciate how amazing my 30x optical zoom camera is. I literally bought it on the Friday before the concert, and it has proved to be a real beaut! Except that I played with it too much on Friday, my cam died halfway through the Saturday LOL. Still, I really do appreciate the optical zoom on the Canon Powershot SX500 IS. I got a video of Kim crowd-walking over the top of everything, she fell a few times but I'm girl-crushing on that rocker-chick drummer!
Me, Issy and Sinead waiting for Alpine
Alpine; This band was a new find for me, so rocking! and the two lead singer chicks were so hip!
Pez was the last one before my cam died on me, whew! LOL Still so happy I got some awesome shots that day! :)
TAME IMPALA! AH MY GAWD! THEY WERE SO GOOD LIVE! I took the rest of these photos on my phone, please excuse the crap quality or not being able to see the band clearly, they were more for sentimental value.
Tegan and Sara, enough said really! They are just beautiful and AMAZING live!
Other bands I also saw but seemed to miss photos of include Flume (SO MUCH LOVE FOR FLUME), The Kooks (WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ACCENT WHEN HE SPOKE), Orlanda be Cool, Shockone, Example and Hungry Kids of Hungary. However I saw Hungry Kids of Hungary at their side show at The Corner Hotel a week before GTM - it was actually the BEST gig I have ever been to!

Now you may remember when I mentioned I saw Hungry Kids of Hungary on my birthday at the Espy, well it turned out it was THEM SWOOPS who were warming up for Hungry Kids of Hungary LOL my bad. Anyway I am completely invested in this band because I think they're going to be found pretty soon, they sound similar to the Last Dinosaurs but of course different at the same time. They are a Melbourne band, only formed last year and already have an album soon to be released! Hopefully will be seeing these guys at their EP release in June!
The Preatures, what talent! They were the other warm-up band for Hungry Kids of Hungary. I apologize for not having all the band members, I was right up the front of the stage I couldn't fit everyone in! The guy up the front, Gideon, he rocked it so hard and started stripping half way through the show LOL it was fantastic!!
The first time I saw this band was at the St Kilda Open Cinema and the band exited via the crowd. My friend was so starstruck all she could muster out to say was 'good job' to the band LOL These guys are so entertaining to watch live and as an encore they got all the other bands to come up on the stage and sing 'Let You Down' - so much fun! My fav is Ben the bass player, he took his shoes off during the show and was subtly rocking back and forth in the back to the music - what a cutie!

On another note, I also ended up seeing the xx at Festival Hall in April! I LOVE OLIVER! WHAT A BABE and Romy is just beautiful! I got tickets for my friends 21st and I know she really enjoyed herself :)
As the xx did two shows in Melbourne, I went to the Friday night show which was the second one because their first one sold out in pre-sales! Impressive, I know! We rocked up early thinking it was going to be really busy but we were terribly wrong and ended up getting spots right at the very front of the stage! YAY!
This was my favourite picutre of the band that night, they were just AMAZING live!
2013 has been SUCH an amazing year for live music and I'm sure there will be more to come! I haven't even mentioned my OOTD's yet! Stay tuned for more ;)

Taking Pictures of You

The weather in Melbourne is rather depressing today and I am currently procrastinating from my essay with this post ahaha so I thought I'd reflect on my trip up to Perth over the summer holidays.

Unexpected trips are the best trips!
I ended up going to Perth for a week right before the end of summer holidays for my sisters graduation with the rest of fam! This was my second time up in Perth, and it just made me appreciate what a great and beautiful country Australia really is.
Flying over Australia during sunrise - Just amazing
What I love about Australia is that the country is so big if you go from one side of the country to the other, the time changes LOL there was a 4 hour time difference between Melbourne and Perth so I ended up gaining 4 hours! My sister lives in this suburban town an hour from the city called Mandurah (pronounces Man-dra, not Man-du-rah), right next to the pier and beaches. We ate some quality grub while we were in Perth, seafood was just perf! Thus I have a lot of food posts, please bare with me ahah
Pork Ribs, Garlic Pasta and Quality Steak by the pier on the first day
A really big thing in Mandurah is to go night crabbing, you don't need a license to do it but there are some self-regulations when you catch a crab such as measuring the crab for size and seeing if they have any crab-babies on them. We decided to go crabbing on the first night, dad was too keen and I was too tired but we ended up getting two of them!

My sister and I ended up going to the Trop Fest: World's Biggest Short-Film Festival which started off as a simple idea by a guy in Aus and then just expanded like crazy. There were thousands of entries from local and international, the finalists were picked and screened nationally before the winner announced in Sydney. Because of the time difference, Perth's screenings were a little bit later - nonetheless, its always so interesting watching these short films. The finalists screenings are always held in an outdoor cinema and the entry is always by donation, if you get a chance to go to one seriously its worth it! Ended up exploring in Fremantle before the screening, which is sort of like where all the hipster live LOL
Graffiti on the walls. Can't believe this was drawn by artline pens
iPho - made me laugh; I think this building was the town hall or something?
Trop Fest Screen

So Tuesday was the main event, my sister's graduation! Because she attended Murdoch University, she got to wear these incredibly attractive* maroon coloured robes ahah. As they go by faculty during the ceremony, Tuesday night was Education, Science and Engineering. There was an outdoor setting with about 3000 chairs and the ceremony featured fireworks and inflatable balls at the end! I don't think my graduation will be nearly as fancy, Murdoch graduation really did out-do itself! Not to mention we each also received free food and drinks!

After the big event, the rest of the week was spent relaxing and well, eating ahaha. We went to some really nice restaurants down in Perth including
Cicerellos
Seafood Basket on the left -calamari rings, seafood sticks, prawns, pineapple fritter and chips
Local sardines with salad on the right

Taku Japanese Restaurant
Spicy Udon noodles
Sashimi meal
Eel bento box
Afghan Kebabs - This kebab house made their own bread which made the kebabs THAT much better!
I can't remember what this was called, but it had chicken and spinach in it!
By far the BEST kebab I've ever had!
Thai on the Terrance
Seafood Curry that came in cool wrapped foil!!
Pad Thai

Beef Salad

If the food hasn't convinced you to visit Perth, check out the incredible scenery in Perth!
My sister on the beach

Beach 5 minutes walk from my sisters house
The lake 5 minutes walk from my sisters house
We actually saw dolphins from the pier!
Same view of the pier- overcast
This is my favourite picture of the trip! The pier during sunset!
So overall a relaxing family trip up to Perth, we literally went to the beach every other day! The weather was just beautiful! I miss Perth so much, can't wait to go back! In the mean time, its nearly winter in Melbourne which means winter fashion! My Fav!! Expect some OOTD's and more highlights of my year! :)

Harvard World Model United Nations Conference Melbourne 2013

Closing Ceremony at the Melbourne Convention Centre Plenary
I had the greatest pleasure last week to be interning for the 22nd session of the Harvard World Model United Nations Conference which was held in Melbourne this year! It was truly an experience I really will never forget!  Just the way young people can come together from over 80 different countries and share ideas, voice concerns and come to conclusions about such important issues in society, was just the most amazing part of WMUN (...excluding the social events LOL)
As I was part of the Host team, running errands involved printing papers for Committee meetings and taking notes in Committee meetings, which doesn't SOUND very exciting however watching the Committee meetings run was a really rewarding and rather thrilling experience! I managed to sneak in and watch a couple Committees including the High Level Summit on the Millennium Development Goals and the International Conference on Population and Development 2013. Most of the week I was helping out at the merchandising/flowers table where delegates could buy a flower, write a message on the leaf and send it out to other delegates (lol cute for all those who were lovestruck), it would then be delivered by the lovely interns and read out in front of all the committees! Rather a nice idea, but seriously embarrassing for those receiving flowers ahah
During the week, we had some amazing speakers come talk to us  but I took away the most from Harry O'brien, Collingwood AFL player and Jan Owen, Entrepreneur for young people who talked about empowering young people. Each night had different social events where most of the interns could attend and lay back with the delegates, which was a really nice change from helping out at the back.
Sunday - Night Zero at Eve Night Club
Monday - Global Village at RMIT Alumni Courtyard
Tuesday - Spring Carnival at Republica
Wednesday - Cabaret Night at Trak Bar and Lounge
Thursday - Into the Wild at CQ Nightclub
Friday - Hooroo at Luna Park
Into the Wild with fellow interns
These social events really did bring out the best parts of Melbourne (excluding Luna Park...) including its beautiful night life and scenery. It was also my 20th birthday on the last day of the conference, and since it ticked over to midnight on the Thursday night - I got to celebrate with all these amazing people at CQ Nightclub as well as at Luna Park! I couldn't really be bothered planning anything for my 20th, but it turned out so much more than I could've hoped for! :)
So after going on the bumper cars (where everyone made a game of hitting me because it was my birthday - "10 points if you hit the birthday girl!"), the ghost ride (which was so much worse than I remember) and the ship ride (where everyone on the boat sang me happy birthday and I couldn't run away), there was an unofficial after party at the Espy in St Kilda.
Luna Park fun! Also had a free photobooth there!
Of course at the Espy, the live band just happened to be Hungry Kids of Hungary (AMAZING band from Brisbane, seriously check them out!)! I could not believe my luck, because I'd already bought tickets to their gig in May and will be seeing them AGAIN at Groovin' the Moo Musical Festival! It was actually the BEST way to end my birthday, probs the best one I've ever had! :D
Hungry Kids of Hungary!

My week at WMUN really was such an incredible experience where I met people from all the over world as well as made local friends I will definitely be keeping in touch with!
After a week of heavily debated Committee meetings, seeing the end result for the Millennium Development Goals post 2015 and having the United Nations consider the document has really shown the kind of change that young people can make in this generation. I am so proud to be a part of something so special! I will definitely be back WMUN!!

Now I have to leave you with the Host Directorate performance at the Cabaret night (talent show)!! Definitely by far the best performance! ;)

Now I am seriously having some heavy post-MUN depression....
